Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is the result of a traumatic event in your life. It could be something that happened to you or something you witnessed. Common triggers for the onset of PTSD are: rape, abuse, car accidents, physical assault, infidelity, or devastating health diagnosis. It is common to be flooded by images or memories of the event which will make you feel helpless and scared. Counseling can help.
Symptoms of Trauma
- nightmares, often repetitive in theme
- flashbacks to the event, often when you least expect it
- insomnia due to fear or nightmares
- sweaty palms, elevated heart rate, palpitations of the heart
- poor memory and poor concentration
- dissociation from your body
